IOM to Host Dialogues about Co-Designing the Future with the Mauritian Diaspora

Port-Louis, 9 March 2021 – Recognizing the value that diaspora populations bring to development efforts at home, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) is taking a step further in engaging and dialoguing with the Mauritian diaspora by hosting three diaspora dialogues on the 17, 20 and 21 of March 2021.

Entitled ‘Research Recommendations and Co-Designing the Future’, these webinars will be an opportunity to share the initial findings and recommendations of the online survey IOM conducted 2020 in three pilot countries (Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom), followed by an open discussion on co-designing the future with the diaspora. Contributions from the diaspora will be used to inform the development of a diaspora engagement action plan for the Government of Mauritius.

To allow diaspora from every time zone to participate, IOM Mauritius will be holding the dialogues at 3 different dates and times. Participants may register on the events through IOM Facebook Page - Mauritian Diaspora Survey or directly on the links below:

These online events are implemented as part of the ‘Building the Capacity of the Mauritian Government to Strengthen Linkages with the Mauritian Diaspora’ project, funded by the IOM Development Fund and implemented in close collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Regional Integration.

A series of consultations, through interviews, surveys and focus groups were organized with diaspora members from October to December 2020 to better understand the size of diaspora communities, their skills, aspirations, needs to fully realise the Mauritian diaspora’s potential. The project’s overall objective is to strengthen the relationship between the diaspora and Mauritius.
