IOM Angola in Collaboration with the Angolan Government Trained Officers of the General Command of the Angolan National Police on the humanitarian dimensions of Migration in Menongue , Cuando Cubango Province
The International Organization for Migration in Angola (IOM),under the Africa Regional Migration Program (ARMP) funded by the U.S Bureau of Refugees and Migration (PRM), provided support to the Angolan Government training during 3 days from 14 February to 16 February 2024, 37 officers from the on the humanitarian dimensions of migration , the training was underscored by its attendance by 37 (29 males and 8 women) provincial officials from Directorate of Investigation and Criminal Offenses (DIIP), Border Police (PGF), Directorate of Patriotic Education of National Police (DEPAT), Immigration Service (SME).
The meeting took place at Conference Room of Provincial Command of the National Police in Menongue, Cuando Cubango Province – Angola, The overall objective of this training was to build the capacity of the Officer from the General Command of the Angolan National Police from Police on understanding the concept of human rights of migrants, identify challenges of identifying victims of trafficking and definition of vulnerable migrants with the goal of offering them better protection, particularly those in situations of vulnerability.

The training goals were achieved, participants Strengthened their understanding on Mixed Migration Components of officials focusing on more humanized action, Improved awareness on migrant’s rights, detection of trafficking and knowing how to identify a VoT and where to report human trafficking cases, could understand the Manual of Mixed Migration Flows provided during training which also helped to explore their sense of promoting a culture of deontology and respect for human rights, starting to look attentively and positively at the issues of migration.

The training ended with the 2nd commander IOM vision also reflects the concern of the PN human rights commission in Angola, with the need to invest in the dynamization and growth of this sector, to serve as an important driver in monitoring and preserving the rights of migrants ,and there is a consensus today on the recognition of the fundamental role of human rights and humanitarian dimensions for migration, as a national public security subsystem and that this strategy is framed within the scope of its training and information policy for those involved in the human rights sectors. migrants, with the aim of creating an environment conducive to the development of the public security system. As per the pre and post results, participants demonstrated an increase in knowledge from 14 per cent on day one to 50 per cent on last day of training.
